Mastering DVCPro50 sequence via AJ-HD1400
First, a caveat; it’s literally been a decade since I have had to master to tape. I’ve also never mastered to tape using a Panisonic deck. So, here we go:
I have a 720×486 sequence that plays back just fine on my Mac.
On the deck I’ve tinkered with system settings, frequency settings, etc. and have not been able to lay off the movie via 1394. I can capture and record in 108060i just fine, but no love at lower resolutions.
Can anyone take me through the menu settings (from factory reset) on the deck to get it to record at DVCPro50? Also, do I need to be recording specifically to a DVCPRO50 cassette (blue lip)?

You can layoff DV50 to that deck.
What are your full sequence settings please?

ya, the 486 thing, I don’t know for sure.
DV50, Like Dave mentioned is 480.But, in the deck menu settings, you’ll need to set the FW input/recording settings to DV50.
Do you have deck control via the 1394?

I do have 1394 control.
question about menu item 023-I assumed PB referred to PLAYBACK FORMAT and wouldn’t influence RECORD format. Am I mistaken about that.
Also, what’s with this REC INH I can’t override? I am trying to use DVCPRO (yellow lip) stock. Am I correct that I can only record DVCPRO50 from FCP onto specifically DVCPRO50 tape stock (blue lip), or will DVCPRO50 record to standard DVCPRO (yellow lip) tape stock?
Finally, why didn’t Panasonic hire a copyeditor for their manual? DVDPRO?

So make a new sequence, and make it 720X480 – DV50.
Copy the other sequence files into it.
See if you can print to tape.

Are you sure about that? I thought DV50 was playback only on that deck.

Thanks all. Came to this same conclusion yesterday. will be outsourcing the master to a house with the appropriate equipment.
