  SD interlaced footage to be shown via laptop/projector – how to convert?

  I have a feature documentary that we are showing in schools. It was shot in SD PAL interlaced, but most schools screen it with a laptop and projector. I’ve noticed that the quality suffers, predominantly when there is motion in the picture. This doesn’t happen when played through a conventional DVD player. Also the subtitles are blocky when played back on a computer.

  I’m assuming this is something to do with interlaced v progressive formats. Could anyone advise how I should compress the output to achieve a higher quality if using a laptop for screening? Thank you so much

  You can deinterlace the footage during compression, try that. I’d probably use h.264 at a high bit rate, don’t change the frame rate, nor change the size.
