  • Look for good Text PlugIn for FCP 7

Posted by Rob Ainscough on November 24, 2011 at 7:45 am

I’ve got MoType but it is pretty limited and some of it’s features frequently crash FCP 7.0.3. I’m looking for a good quality text generator that support motion, stoke, outlines, gradients, drop shadow, etc.

So far Borix Graffiti v5.x appears to be my primary choice, but would like input on this and other text generators.

    Thanks, Rob.

Have you looked at the text in Motion?
Boris Title3D is included with FCP 7.

That’s a good suggestion, but Title 3D or Title Crawl doesn’t have a built in “Typewriter” type of animation so I would have to a lot of manual keyframe. MoType has a “typewriter” animation but is very flake when overlaid on vector shapes (tends to crash FCP 7).

I didn’t want to have to go to Motion and/or Cinema4D and do a lot of round trip work. Wanted something that could be used directly in FCP 7 and is quick and easy.

I don’t know if Boris Graffiti has a built in “Typewriter” animation.

If I’m not mistaken, Boris Title 3D -does- have a type-on parameter.

Final cut pro itself also has a typewriter generator. I think it’s called typewriter. Or type on. Don’t have to keyframe it either. Goes on the length.

    Thought I’d add….

In terms of general titling, these are my two go-to titlers for fast, good-looking titles in FCP:
