  Problematic Render Issue

  Hi,

  I’ve got this issue that I’ve never encountered before.

  I have a very large, feature-length documentary project – the entire timeline is fully rendered.

  When I copy some of the clips from that timeline to new timeline in a COMPLETELY NEW PROJECT, they copy over without having to be re-rendered.

  Ok, fine.

  Next, I change those clips in such a way that they need to be rendered and then I re-rerender.
  All is normal.

  HOWEVER, when I close the new project and open the OLD, the render files for those copied clips are GONE and need to be re-rendered !?!?

  Surely the render files are project-specific — and not clip specific.

  Why would my rendering in one project affect the renders in a completely different project?

  Is there a setting that I can change to fix this?

  Fcp7 does weird things with render media.

  When you change those parameters, it probably deletes or changed the orig render file.

  Even though it’s a new project, those render files are still linked to the old one.

  My advice would be to change the name of the sequence in the new project before rendering.

  That way the render files should remain behind as they will be named differently since FCP7 names render files after the sequence.

  Give it a shot and see if that works.

  I would do all of the following:

  Delete all renders for the project using Render Manager
  Trash prefs
  Fix permissions

  Thanks for the replies.

  I tried both of those things and am still getting the same results.

  Must be some glitch in the way my FCP deals with render files.

  Yes, sorry it didn’t work.

  FCP6 had a bug where it would lose all renders, now FCP7 still loses renders from SmoothCam footage every once in a while.

  Are these big renders that you would rather not do or something?
