  editing 59.94 vs 29.97

  Hello everyone,

  My delivery format for a TV network is asking for XDCAM HD422 (50 mb/s) or XDCAM HD (35 mb/s). HD 1080i/59.94 in 16:9 aspect ratio.

  Using multiple cameras of different formats I converted all footage to 1080i/29.97 Apple ProRes 422 and Apple XDCam EX 1080p30 which plays at 29.97.

  I used easy setup in FCP for XDCam EX 1080i60 (35 VBR) which sets up the sequence for 29.97. Can anyone tell me if this is correct and will I have trouble exporting 1080i/59.94 for the network in the end?

  59.94 at 1080 is 29.97. It’s confusing, I know. But 1080i 59.94 means 1080i at 29.97fps. The 59.94 after the “i” indicates FIELDS per second…because it is an interlaced format.

  Thanks Shane. Can I edit in a 29.97 sequence and then export into 59.94 to meet their standards? All footage imported as no field dominance so should I change them to upper or lower or leave them at none?

  I’m telling you that 29.97 and 59.94 are the same thing at 1080i. It is the same thing…exactly! Just a different way of saying it.
