  going tapeless, straight to harddrive, log and capture 1080i sony HRV-V1U???

  Hi Guys, I have been going nuts trying to solve this one. I recently setup a small production studio for web clients that involves chroma keying. I have a sony HVR V1U and FCP 6. I would love to skip the camera’s tape and capture straight to harddrive via FCP.

  I can make it work if I dumb the quality down to DV which looks terrible. Is it possible to capture @ 1080i this way or am I limited my bandwidth or something?

  I’ve tried every combination of codec that I can think of and what happens is the wrong log and capture screen pops up, I see one frame and then I get the message “end of tape has occured”. If I reconfigure to DV I get the log and capture screen with all the controls and settings…

  Your capture settings need to match what the camera is set to.
  I don’t know about HDV but what does work well are:

  DV
  DV50
  DVCPRO
  DVCPROHD

  Set the capture to match the cam and you’ll have it.
