  Compressor settings for 480i to 1080i upres

  I am trying to upres some master footage clips (footage was originally from a film). The master footage was delivered in file format to me – ProRes 480i. When I try to create a 1080i version using compressor, there is a lot of interlacing. I’m not sure whether I should keep the field dominance as lower or change to upper but I have tried both and neither appear acceptable. I am viewing it on a broadcast monitor.

  Software conversion will only yield so-so results when uprezzing SD to HD.

  If you have not turned Frame Controls on, try that. Set the re-sizing quality setting to Best. You’re not deinterlacing or changing the time base, so leave those controls on their default setting.

  As John points, you need to turn Frame Control ON.
  The 480 stuff (if standard) is Lower First, while the 1080 stuff (if you want it standard) should be Upper first. Set properly the deinterlacing options.
  Another reason to set Frame Control ON, is that you are dealing with 10b stuff: Compressor works in High Precision only when the Frame Control is ON.
