    Hi,
I notice when exporting 23.98 footage and 29.97 footage in the same timeline that 1 or the other plays back jittery. After a few hours of getting fairly confused online and finding no exact answer to my problem I decided to post here.

I have already put 3-4 days logging these 23.98 clips (making subclips in FCP) I left the original 1/2 hour clip alone. And 2 days cutting an intro and starting an episode. No huge rush on this project but what is the fastest way to get this done? The 23.98 clips are minimal but large sized. My xdcam clips are many and counting. But much smaller-for the most part.

Most of the project (4-5 webisodes) will be 29.97 xdcam footage and 5d2 footage. But there will be a couple with a mixed bag of 23.98 footage originally shot on 16mm film.

could I render in the timelines and just interpolate the “used” footage? or should I just do all of it? I have cinema tools but haven’t used it and when I open clips it allows me to do nothing…which is apparently another problem I may be posting….

In the future, I’d convert one set of files to the other’s timebase so all clips in the sequence have the same timebase. Even though they’ll play from the timeline, FCP doesn’t like mixed timebases. Convert your 23.976 clips to 29.97 in Compressor (Frame Controls ON) and then see how it goes. Or vice-versa. If your 23.976 clips have pulldown added and so have the same timebase (29.97), then I’m not sure what’s going on.

    Hey John,

    Thanks for the reply.

Is there another way to convert without compressor? Mine is not working for some reason.
Do you think that my logged sub clips will still be valid if I convert the files?

    Thanks

tried a bunch of exports from FCP- looking the best from the 24p sequense to straight QT movie but still not as smooth as when it plays in FCP.

Checkout this link for Compressor Repair. It might help. I’m not certain about the sub clips. It’s possible they’ll re-link if the file names are identical and in the same path. Be sure to put the originals in a safe place so they’re not overwritten.

So I think I found the solution for me and after this exports I am hoping I can reconnect my sub clips to the converted main clip.

I conformed in cinema tools to 30p then brought into a 30p timeline – retimed to 80% -exported to QTmovie-reimported and like I said hopefully after this exports I can reconnect my subclips…if this works I’ll only have to do this 5 times!
