16:9 ratio maintenance
Hi friends, Im trying to export DV Pal 16:9 ratio footage from FCP 7, but at VTR monitor it shows squeezed image and so as the mirror image at LED. From VTR menu if select Edge crop it shows edge crop but mirror image still shows full frame squeezed, there’s no letterbox output option via ilink. now i cant be sure of what im getting as ouput. I think im missing something or making a technical mistake. If anyone can identify or have any experience on this please let me know.
Im using Sony HVR N15 via ilink, 14 inch Sharp CTR monitor & FCP 7.

You need a TV/monitor able to display Anamorphic.
BTW, this is a very basic question.

Yeah i know that, im soon getting into that.
But is there any other way to know is the footage going to tape is proper 16:9??

The fact that it appears squashed on the VTR monitor should confirm it. I’m assuming you’ve worked in an anamorphic 16:9 sequence in FCP, yes? And it looks like proper full-frame 16:9 in FCP? Then you would expect it to look squashed on a 4:3 monitor that does not have a 16:9 mode.
If you actually want to output it as 16:9 letterbox within the 4:3 frame, then as Rafael says you will have to drop it into a 4:3 sequence first.

I have tired it, the video looks fine at mirror display(LED) while exporting, but this time VTR monitor gets stretched like trying to fit into screen on 4:3 monitor. I assume it’s fine since the mirror has full display with correct ratio. What do you think?
