  • Should converting to WMV really take this long?

Posted by Mark Morache on September 18, 2011 at 8:08 am

I tried searching the forum for this info, but didn’t find it.

2.66 dual core i7 MBP with 8g ram.

It’s taking flip for mac 50 minutes to convert a 5 minute clip at 720p.

I’m going directly out of quicktime. Working through compressor seems to take the same long time.

    Is this normal?

    Hi Mark,
The best to make WMV is a PC.
In a Mac, whatever the application you use, is always the the same F4M who works.

Sadly, the answer is no it shouldn’t take that long to make a wmv but it does. If you’ve got access to a windows PC it’s a lot faster to make a quicktime on the mac then take that to the PC and convert it to wmv there.

We use Episode to encode masters to wmv files.
Doesn’t take to long. Desktop Mac.

[Chris Tompkins] “We use Episode to encode masters to wmv files.”

$500 for episode? No thanks, I don’t encode that many wmv files.

I have parallels on my MBP. Is there some cheap windows software that I can run in windows that will speed up the process? Just thinking.
