    Hi Everyone,

I came onto a feature film project to create some animations and they requested that I make them for Standard Definition (720×480). Now that they have received a green light to move forward, they want to create a Hi-Def timeline (1920×1080) and need my animations resized.

I created my graphics using Illustrator and Photoshop, then animating them in AE. I’m trying to find the best way to go from SD to HD and any guidance here would be much appreciated.

I can see there are two options:

    1. Under Output Module, I can stretch to the HD size I need. I tried this and it looks fine on my monitor, but will this give me negative results on the big screen?

    2. I can rebuild everything within an HD size comp, nearly starting from scratch… I’d like to avoid this if possible.

    Thank you very much,

    Neal

Use the scale comp script that comes with AE to scale up your comps. You may have to readjust things to make them work in a HD sized comp because the timing of moving elements may be off and the aspect ratio of some of your graphics may not work, but the script will preserve the animation in tact which won’t happen if you just change the comp size and scale up the elements.

    You’ll find under File>Scripts>Sample Scripts.
