Frame brightness changes on Cuts
Hi everyone,
I have a had a strange problem for a long time. When I export my projects, in a few places in the cuts, the brightness of frames changes (literally, just a single frame before or after a cut). It happens with cuts and fades. It happens (as far as I can tell) fairly randomly – not on every cut but in random places. The brightness problem is constant in each export. Help!
All my footage is in Apple Pro Res 422.

Without any info on how you are exporting, frame rates & frame sizes and what codec you are exporting to, it is very difficult to begin to guess.

Sorry about that. I’m doing a QuickTime movie export to apple pro res 422 in 1080p at 23.98 fps.

i’ve had gamma shifts on exported quicktime movies splaying in QT player7
thay occurred on shots that had been worked on in After Effects.the problem was solved for me by going into my Quicktime Player prefs and ticking “Enable Final Cut Studio Color Compatibility”
if i played the file on another system the problem would of course be there until i changed the QT prefs on that system as well.

I’ve seen that solution before – that setting is already on and I’m still getting odd frames (it’s like certain framse brightness is turned up a tiny bit).
The video always looks fine in final cut – once it’s exported it plays back with the odd color changes. Any other thoughts anyone?

I’ve found a work around to this problem (in case someone else has this issue as well).
I exported at a higher quality – apple pro res 422 HQ 1920 * 1080 24fps and that seemed to do the trick. (Then of course, I do a re-export to H.264, which I would do anyway).
