  • Strange frame rates when Exporting in animation codec.

We’re planning on going to Grade for the first time and after much to-ing and fro-ing we seemed to have settled on a good system/format that was good for both us and the post house.

    We’re doing a test with a trailer.

We have layer one:Flattened down and populated with as many clips as possible.

Layer two:If any two clips involved a cross dissolve the dissolve was removed, both clips extended to cover the duration of the dissolve and the incoming clip placed on this layer.

    Layer three: Is titles

Layers one and two are made up for single tracks, they titles are exported as a group of four tracks.

    We’re exporting at:

    Compression: Animation
    Depth: Millions of Colours +
    Quality: Best
    Frame Rate : 25
    Dimensions: 1920 x 1080
    Key Frames set to automatic.

For some reason all of the layers come out at weird Frame rates i.e layer one 17.5 fps, layer two 8.07, layer three 4.38!

I’m truly baffled by this, can anyone shed any light on why this might be happening?

    Thanks in advance

    Andrew

If you are exporting using Export> Quicktime Conversion you must set frame rate to 25 not current. This is certainly a bug in 25 frame. I have seen weird frame rates being set in the meta data, although the actual frame rate is correct.

I assume you are using Animation for the alpha channel. ProRes 4444 would be better for that task as it is lossless compressed and 10 bit, although your grade facility may not be able to handle ProRes. If they can, it would be worth testing that as well.

Curiously each layer is exported with half the frame rate of the previous.
No idea what might be causing this.
Are you exporting with QT Conversion?( No TC).
If so, try from the time-line.

    [Andrew Cross] “Compression: Animation

You are exporting with an Alpha Channel.

I guess you need Alpha channel just on the titles layer.
Export the flat layers as “Millions of Colors”.
    No “+” needed.
