If I have a pice of footage .. say 20 min long .. over 4 gig size that I import to the project bin… I then grab 5 and 10 sec pieces of that and add to my time line. Is the fact that the master clip is so large hurting the performance of AE. Should I go into premiere and edit the small clips out of the bigger one and only have the small pieces in my AE project at all .. or does it matter…

THanks Dave .. The question was does it tax (performance wise) AE to have the big Clip in the project bin if I am only using parts of the big clip on my time line

Thanks .. That is what I needed .. I am not really editing .. I shot footage at a client (store) various angles, outside, inside etc. TO me it is easier to bring one file into AE and then grab pieces and make layers based on 5 to 10 sec clips. Am I missing something… is that the hard way?

Very True Dave .. Let me say here (which Is not said enough) the willingness for guys like you to help is amazing to me. Serge is another one that has been incredible to help. It seems like such a small thing to say but thanks for taking time which I believe is the most valuable thing to all of us.

This particular type editing I don’t really have to see realtime though with a dual AMD 6000+ machine with 4 Gigs of ram running xp64.. it doesn’t take but a flash… again Thanks for all your contributions to guys like me who can never repay you!
