why does it take so long to render some media but not all?
My P2 Media is not taking long to render yet when I drag the media from another camera (one of those consumer grade HD camcorders that used the DVDs to record onto) it takes FOREVER.

Your P2 media most likely is the DCProHD codec, which is a realtime codec in FCP. The other camera, which you unfortunately failed to mention, most likely uses some other codec that isn’t a FCP realtime codec. You should transcode that all of that material to a FCP realtime codec before editing.
If you’re more precise and tell us what the 2nd camera is and what codec it comes in as in FCP, we can help you more precisely.

I actually did not shoot the second camera footage and have no idea what kind of camera it is. I also have no idea how to transcodel to a FCP realtime codec before editing.

Select a clip in the FCP browser and scroll over to the right and tell me what you see in the compressor column.
That’s the codec. If you’re going to continue editing you’ll need to know what you’re editing, and this is one way to do just that. You can also open in QT 7 and open the Inpsector using Command-J to get that same codec info. Try it!

If you look all over this and other forums, you will find that h,264 is not a realtime editing codec in FCP. There are many way to transcode it to proper editing codec, but the easiest two are using MPEG Streamclip (freeware available all over) and Compressor (part of FCS).
You need to use either one to transcode the h.264 material to DVCProHD so it precisely matches the other footage. You can find instructions for transcoding all over this forum and all over the web by Googling.

Hello. Is this problem also affecting rendering involving pictures? In my case I am having really hard time to render a small movie on FCP if i add some JPEG pictures (about 2MB each) to the movie. Whats the problem?
