You need FCP 7…FCP 5.1 won’t work with this camera…and I don’t think the plugin works for FCP 6 either. So you need to look on eBay or other places to find FCP 7…and download the Canon XF Log and Transfer plugin.

Thanks much Shane. According to Canon I need 6.0.3 to run their utility which will convert mxf files & use in final cut. Am i going to have other issues ? I am using a Power PC. thanks so much. Bill

Yes….you have a Power PC. To convert anything to ProRes using Log and Transfer, you need an Intel Mac. Your hardware and software is too outdated to work with the new camera you bought. You can’t get FCP 7 to work on it…but you might get FCP 6.

You can try to use ClipWrap 2 (free demo available) to convert the footage….but it will take a LONG TIME to do that. PowerPCs are very underpowered. And in order to have ProRes available, you need at least FCP 6. And the only places you will find that is on ebay…

Thanks much Shane. According to Canon I need 6.0.3 to run their utility. I’m really thinking time for a new Mac to just eliminate all the headaches… Thanks so much for your help. Best
