  Switching the resolution of a sequence after work has been done in the wrong resolution

  Hi everyone,

  I am working with FCE 4.0.1 (but could go work at my friend’s place and switch the project to FCP 6.0.6 if that would fix this):

  I shot my project in 1080i and converted the MXF files to H264 HD and is showing up in final cut as 1920×1080 30FPS.

  Problem is, fool that I am, I neglected to setup my settings in HD from the get go and as a result all of my sequences started off in SD. After a pile of editing has been done I am going bug eyed… After switching my settings, I can drag the same clips on and they show up in HD but the ones I’ve wittled down to size already are a fraction of the size in the viewer.

  Is there any way I can switch this without re-editing the whole thing?

  Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated.

  Wow…that right there is a load of wrong. FCP doesn’t like to work with H.264 files. That’s not an editing codec. And 30fps…that might be fine for web, but 29.97 is the standard really. You shot what format to MXF? FCP has a tapeless workflow for proper getting footage into the app…

  Yes. Make a new sequence. Cut in one clip of the full 1080 footage into it. Click YES when FCP asks “do you want the sequence settings to match?” remove that clip. Copy and Paste all the other footage into this sequence. Select all…then REMOVE ATTRIBUTES, and choose BASIC MOTION and DISTORT.

  If you haven’t applied any keyframes in the motion/size tab you can select all the clips right click remove attributes and check motion. This will set all your clips back to 100 percent. All those that you have keyframed size adjustments to will then have to be redone. Please then, step away from the monitors for 15 minutes to allow your eyes to “unbug.” 🙂
