  Lighting Question

  Hi everyone. Long time reader of this place and it has been of great knowledge! I have a client who sent me project, but the problem is that the video was shot at 2 different lighting backgrounds, and I need a way to adjust the light to match as close as possible. Is this something that can be done? My setup is pretty simple as I started this off as a hobby and have just recently started to pick up some jobs. I am running an iMac with FCS 4. It cannot be re-shot unfortunately. Any help is greatly appreciated

  I would try using the color corrector 3 way effect in FCP, However the best way would be to send it to color but if you are new you probably will have a difficult time figuring that out.

  So yes color corrector 3 way in the effects tab under video filter – color correction. I would recommend starting with the mids and don’t get too drastic with the adjustments as too much will make your footage grainy.

  Taking your background, your version of FCP and your iMac, I would be honest with the client and tell them you will do the best you can but not to expect perfect results. Unless the client is paying you a very good rate, do not spend too much time on this project. 30 minutes maximum.

  It can be done but it’s difficult. You will need to isolate anything in the foreground.

  At the risk of getting stoned to death, fcp-x can fix this in one or two clicks by matching one scene’s color balance look to all the otehr clips you have.

  But in FCP-7, yes, use the 3-way color corrector. Visit the tutorials on the COW by Rich Harrington, he breaks you in really easy.

  Like all prosumer auto fixer type gimmicks, FCP X may get you close. If it were all so easy, there would be no need for graders.
