  5DtoRGB & FCP

  Hi,

  I’m going to start the editing of a documentary shot with DSLRs and I’ll like to use 5DtoRGB to transcode the footage. However I don’t like the idea of transcoding all the footage to Prores with 5DtoRGB because it’s a huge amount of footage and i’ll take too much time. My idea is to:

  1) Transcode all the footage to proresLT or even proxy via compressor or mpegstreamclip. It’s fast.
  2) Edit it on FCP.
  3) Then replace only used footage with 5DtoRGB PRoresHQ transcoded footage.
  4) Archive and final output.

  However, I can’t find anyway to get a list of used clips either in a project or sequence from FCP to transcode it.

  Any ideas? Thanks!

  There may be a better/cheaper way to do this, but this will do exactly what you’re asking:

  Why don’t you use FC’s Media Manager?

  @Mark, thanks I’ll definetly take a look at that tool because I think it does what I want.

  @Rafael. I know I can use the FC media manager to archive or reduce the project to only the clips used, and even convert them to another flavor of Prores. But I only can use it AFAIK, in step 4, to archive it. I could use the FCs manager to transcode to ProresLT or proxy, edit and then archive but replacing used clips with ProresHQ. But I’ll miss the superior quality of the 5DtoRGB conversion to Prores.

  You are right. You can’t isolate the H264 clips to be converted.

  I’ve finally found a way to get a list of used clips in a sequence with the source path location, all within FCP.

  1) Select in the browser the sequence.
  2) Go to Edit>Find
  and you have to choose
  For: “Used Media” and check “in selected sequences”.
  Launch the search and you’ll get a list of the used media in the project.
  3) Right-click on any column of the “Find results” window and select “Show source”. It’ll display the media location full path. You can also hide other columns if you don’t need them.
  4) Go to File>Export>Batch List

  You’ll have a text file with name and source path to all used media in the selected sequence! 🙂
