FCP 7 and MXF
Posted by Anhtu Vu on July 8, 2011 at 2:58 ami’m trying import an xxx.MXF file via Log & Transfer but it does not seem to work. I’m aware that FCP 7 does not support MXF natively but i should be able to use LT and work in Prores.
Also, Sony Transfer won’t see the file , any idea ???BTW, this was shot on Sony F700 so Xdcam HD

Are you try to import a single file?

July 8, 2011 at 5:26 pmHi rafael,
I’m quite familiar with file base workflow but the problem with this particular gig is that the costumer mess up the folder hierarchy and we’re stuck with a single MXF file!
I figured out a way to ” cheat ” fcp by reconstructing a dummy file hierarchy. Thanks anyways.

July 9, 2011 at 2:48 pmI can only say I had similar problems and instead of ‘Log and Transfer’ Imported the clip with XDCAM Transfer, and on the file menu selected Import>XDCAM…
This has aided me with MXF Files I couldn’t see before for editing for DVD’s.
I am using a Canon XF 305 so had to get a ‘Plug In’ for the ‘Log and Transfer’ and this has worked although I am not achieving the Bit Rate I shot in with Pro Res 4:2:2 ( HQ ) I need 50Mbps and at best am getting 22Mbps.
I hope my Info helps you!! I need the Bit Rate as It’s for Broadcast, so depending on your projects destination whether you can Import via SONY XDCAM TRANSFER which is free from Sony Site, do let me know if this helps…

I was not aware you can import single MXF file via Xtransfer. I thought you need the folder structure intact for xfer to work. Anyways, i tried importing single MXF with the latet Xfer and no candy.

July 11, 2011 at 11:38 amWell Im doing exactly that, Sony EXDACM Transfer adding the the file via add.
In FINAL CUT make a new project’ file Import You See in the list XDCAM click on that, go back to EXDCAM Press Import, Should work fine as it is for me…..Make sure you have Plug In for your Camera for Final Cut found prob on it’s website….Apart from that I don’t know what to suggest, like I said it’s working for me and I shot with Canon and at 1st couldn’t see any MXF in Final cut until I did the above….
