I have some HD clips – 1920x1080i at 29.97 fps with apple uncompressed 8 bit 4.2.2 codec. When importing to AE and encoding to an HD MPEG2 transport stream I get unwanted results – pixelazation (sp). I have tried multiple interpretation settings of these files but nothing seems to be correct.

My system is win based – any help would be greatly appreciated. Am I missing something here – why am I getting these results? The files look great when encoded outside of AE on the same machine.

Okay, so maybe there is another way that I am suppose to ask questions???? I can’t seem to get even one response – please let me know if I need to rephrase, edit, or ask. I am stuck trying to figure something out and I just need a little advice. I have seen a lot more – “read the manual” type questions posted that offered at least some advice…..

I just need help locating the issue of why I am seeing “mosquito noise” around areas of high detail after encoding an HD file from AE 6.5 to an MPEG2 transport stream.

    thanks,

Sometimes, those who saw the question just don’t know the correct answer, jS. I’ve never dealt with HD, so that’s why I’ve stayed away until now.

What did you use to encode? Not all MPEG-2 encoders are equal. I’ve had good results rendering to the Animation codec out of AE, then sending that file to Apple’s Compressor for MPEG-2 encoding.

Maybe you should try the DVD forum, since they seem to deal with MPEG-2 issues more often.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve

Thanks for the reply Steve –

I am using the Heuris MPP2 that encodes HD transport stream. The funny thing is, and is why I asked the question here, is that if I encode directly using my encoder – the file looks great! It’s only when I encode out of AE the problem exists.

I have asked this same question to the group a few weeks back and I received the same response – none.

Thanks again, maybe I will try the DVD group, but you know they will say “try the AE group”.

I’d say the answer is obvious: use a dedicated encoder. They’re always better.

Well – it may not be that obvious – I am using the same encoder, both inside and outside of AE. It’s only when selecting the encoder as the “export” that I seen the problem. If, however, I use the same encode as a “stand alone” project – the files look great. So, the problem must (IMO) be when exporting out of AE and therefore I must be selecting or not selecting something within AE when I should…..

    Thoughts?

Thank you again as even just speaking about this out loud to someone makes me think more of what to check.
