Log & Transfer – FCP does not recognize file structure
HI,
I have following problem: I took over the project of another editor. I received the footage on an external HD. All the material could be recognized by the Log&Transfer tool. Just two folder, suppsoviely coming from a Panasonic giving me trouble. From what I can see the file structure seems to be ok:
PRIVATE -> AVCHD -> AVCHDTN & BDMV. the BDMV folder goes over the STRAM folder into the actaul MTS files. Other folder on that HD with the same structure are recognized by FCP.
With this folder it gives me the warning: “PRIVATE contains unsupported media”.
According to the CA this folder was copied exactly like the others onto the HD.
What can be done to repair / reconsolidate this folder to make it work again inside the Log&Transfer Tool?Thanx a lot.
Any Help appreciated – since we face a deadline, plus the original cards were formatted already again.Greetings,

Put the private folder in another folder and point FCP at that newly created folder.

Hi Jeremy,
I tried your suggestion: Created a new Folder, dropped the PRIVATE in it. But same same – FCP tells me it’s an unsupported file structure. Anything I can do about it? On the first look, all the folder structures look ok..

Your structure should look something like this (the folder marked B_1 is the one I created):

It doesn’t have the DCIM or MISC folder, though. Look at mine again with the folders along with PRIVATE.

Yes, I did notice the absence of those two, but the strange thing is: A lot of the the other Card Folder, I received from the client, also are missing these two folders, but Log & Transfer still recognizes them. So, I thought it can’t be the absence of those.

Hmm. I’m not sure. There must be something missing within that file. There’s a lot of them in the AVCHD spec, for sure. You would need to compare them, I would guess.
If you go into the CLIPINF, PLAYLIST and STREAM folders, do you see files in there?
CLIPINF should have CPI files
PLAYSLIST should have MPL
STREAM should have MTS -
Yes, there are. Only one strange thing. In the other folder, that work, the amount of files in the CLIPINF Folder are the same than in the STREAM Folder. In the one that is not working, there are more files in the CLIPINF Folder, than in the STREAM Folder. And the numbers of this two folders are equivalent to each other. Not so in the none working folder. Can that be it?

Could it be a solution, to erase the files that are too many in the CLIPINF Folder?
Because I saw, that there are the same numbers in the CLIPINF and the STREAM Folder, but just in the CLIPINF Folder are more files.Sascha

I did realize, I can import the files to AE, then convert it from there – seems to be the last, very time consuming option, if I really don’t get the Log&Transfer to work.
Or is there any other less time consuming way?Sascha
