  Slomo recommendations for DSLR Footage

  Hi,

  I shot at 24p on the 7D & 60D and there are a few clips that I’d like to slomo.
  They were not shot at 50p.

  When I speed change to 50% inside FCP I get weird artefacts and lags inbetween the frames.
  I think it may be better with Frame Blending off, but it’s still doesn’t look great.

  Do y’all have any other suggestions? It doesn’t have to look as silky as if I shot it at 50p, but I would like it to look better.
  Is RoundTripping to Motion for Optical Flow an option.

  Any plugins you can recommend [Twixtor is hellishly expensive].

  PS – I’m editing with ProRes 24p on a ProRes 24p timeline.

  Those artifacts are called Frame blending.

  Use optical flow, or twixtor.

  Next time shoot 50/60p with high shutterspeeds.

  Twixtor is worth the money.
  You may also try Motion, it’s quite good.

  If you shot 50p then you can use Cinema Tools to change the playback frame rate to 24. This will slow down the footage. Cinema Tools changes the file so if you want to be safe, you can also do the slow down in compressor by setting the playback speed to 24

  If you need further slo mo then Motion Optical flow might help.
