FCP Transparency / Color Display issues
Just wondering if anyone can help me with a peculiar problem.
I am working on FCP 7, using my MacBook Pro.
During my last couple of projects I have noticed that the colour of my footage in the timeline is all displaying to dark. The problem became apparent when I cut in a logo that was blue. But in the timeline, then appeared black. However when I export a QT, at the sequence settings, the colour is then correct.
This appears to be happening all my types of media and doesn’t seem to be constrained to a particular codec.
It is as if FCP is compositing the clip to the black canvas below. But all my settings are normal, and my sequence settings seem ok.
Anyone got any thoughts? Be much appreciated!

This is a well known gamma issue with quicktime that has plagued FCP for years. Hopefully this will be resolved either with the Colorsync feature in FCP, or more likely when they finally kill QT and replace it with AV Foundation. Tomorrow would not be soon enough….

Ah I see. Thanks very much for your response. It seems strange though that Ive never noticed before. Is it something that can occur randomly in a project? Or something that is constant?

Sometimes the effect is more noticeable when using an external video device, like a Kona or Blackmagic card – it’s also worse with some codecs.
