Steve J. says they’re only giving us 5Gb of free storage on iCloud, so it looks like we’ll have to purchase more space if we intend to use it for sending video.

At the link below, Apple says that as of today, June 6th, those of us with MobileMe accounts will have our accounts extended to June 2012, without charge. They speak of transitioning to iCloud this fall, but still no mention of iDisk.

I’m hugely concerned about iDisk. Our company uses this feature quite frequently. Additionally, what about our websites that are created using iWeb. That was the most important resource that we had. Putting up client reviews on the website was a HUGE cost savings for us. Will this go away, too?
WOW…. So many questions… So many holes left by Apple on the future of iCloud and MobileMe.

I guess I was both lucky to not have paid my $99renewal in May, and a sap for having not got it extended to next June. I found that Vimeo has been much more useful for those client reviews, as I can reload newer versions over the top of the older versions without changing url’s. Apple’s mobileme has always been slow and slower for my needs. Or did i misunderstand your thoughts Wayne?

Yeah… Vimeo is an option but we’ve not had as much luck with it being faster. I’ll admit that our company broadband access is not as fast as it could be but we have what we have.
As for using it for client reviews, is there a time limit as to how long your videos can be? There have been times when we’ve had to put up an entire broadcast episode for an advertiser.

I don’t think there is any time limit that I can see. they seem to have very long segments on it. But I’ve not had to put anything over 30 minutes on it.
It’s unlikely to be faster, as the bottleneck is usually with the internet pipe, not the access to it. Your connection from your desk to the ISP is likely very fast, and the servers at Vimeo and YouTube are optimized for video throughput, so likely even faster. The bottleneck is that slow outbound and inbound pipe. My mid day speeds are much faster since changing from DSL (1.5Mbps) to Cablemodem (5 Mbps). But I’m in the sticks. You might find faster DSL in a city. My speeds at peak evening hours are no different. Too much shared traffic on cablemodem.
I really like Vimeo because it allows the ability to keep the URL I tell the client to use. That’s a huge benefit with multiple edits, like I did today, for example, getting to the final.
