I shoot for stock video footage in H.264, convert to ProRes, edit then output and finally, convert to PhotoJpeg.

It appears that the clips are slightly lighter in value, blacks not as rich, etc. in the “final” version. I occasionally go back and redo
scopes. Any clue why this might happen?

    Thanks. Ken

Photo Jpeg is a legacy codec that hasn’t been updated in several years, so it’s color and gamma settings are not going to be identical to newer improved codecs such as ProRes. Why exactly are you exporting to the Photo JPEG codec?

Seems the choice for all but one (H.264) stock footage company I deal with…All the others either request it or include it in their specs.

Tell us exactly how you are making the PJPEG file.

You should tinker with the gamma filter in Compressor until you get the perfect setting that works best for you, then create a preset and a droplet based on that.

Hold on a sec, first responder, your might be jumping the gun.

While pjpeg is legacy, it has some nifty features.

Yes #2, and it seems it’s the requested codec, so that’s why I suggested that Ken simply fix the gamma in Compressor with the filter and make a preset and/or droplet.

    Probably not necessary.
