99% of the time i am shooting with 5DII and have it set to PAL 1920×1080 25f.

    FCP version: 7.0.3

    I am using Mac Pro:
    OS: version 10.6.7
    Processor: 2 x 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory: 20GB 1066MHz DDR3
Display card: ATI Radeon HD5770 (VRAM 1024MB)

I have 4 hard drives with the machine:
    System: 1TB
    Storage: 640GB
    Back up: 2TB
    Working drive: 2TB

The working drive is my scratch disc for FCP ONLY and will time machine it to the back up drive every morning and evening. What is the best (smoothen) performance system settings on FCP will run better? I have to have it set to PAL and I need it 1920 x 1080 HD always.

Does it mean my Motion and FCP has to be set to 1920 x 1080 25f and what about all the settings in System Settings in FCP? There is a long list on easy set up and what should i choose? Please help as this been bothering me for long, the machine keeps crashing…

    Thanks in advance!

Convert your footage into ProRes 422 HQ 1920 by 1080 25 fps field dominance – none. Use sequence preset ProRes 422 HQ 1920 x 1080 25 fps. That’s it.

    Thank you Everest!

Does it mean i have to convert every QT to a ProRes 422? and what about the settings for FCP?

I was referring to QT H.264 original footage from 5d/7d. Yes, preferably try to work with ProRes’s if possible or advisable. FCP has lots of settings. In your case those I mentioned above are what you should pay attention to in the first place.

Thanks, but what about motion? If i have to create something from motion and should i use “Broadcast HD 1080i50”? that it is in 1920 x 1080 25 frame per second? Or is it suggested to export it to quicktime in Prores 422?
