After Effects
Posted by Milesfab on October 26, 2007 at 2:59 pmYo, how’s everybody doing out there?
I have a question. How is this accomplished in after effects?

Does anybody know? Is this basically complex camera movements with blending modes over the images?
Thanks!

October 26, 2007 at 6:20 pmyeah, i think i would start in photoshop, building the individual ‘scenes’ for each title effect comp. import those layered files as comps in ae. then either layout all the ps comps into a large master comp and then add the animation to each of the individual ps comps… or the other way around. either way, once the master comp and individual comp animations were together, i’d then bring the master comp into the final comp and animate the camera move (or, maybe i’d resize the master comp, once i had things layed out the way i wanted them…).
it’s a really nice title sequence, thanks for sharing…

October 27, 2007 at 1:45 pmActually, that would be much easier to edit in a typical professional level NLE… with the exception of the titling which would be best done in AE or titling specific application software.
The large number and layers plus panning and zooming (same as camera moves but much easier to achieve same results) would be very time consuming and using AE would make this more difficult and slower to edit than any typical editing software.

October 28, 2007 at 5:38 pmWhat would this comp look like in photoshop or ae? Is it just a series of images laid flat spaced out and the camera is just looking at one at a time?

October 29, 2007 at 1:44 amIf I read your post correctly, the answer is yes… you would create the various layers in photoshop and to a lesser degree AE for certain titling effects and some video tracked and pinned into the images. Then, place those into the editing time line in numerous layers.
Afterward, the time consuming part (as if the previously mentioned portion of this process is not consuming enough)… would be to edit these psp graphics, titlings and images/video/animations into a methodology that uses a LOT of position keyframes, panning and pure cut edits between the numerous layers.
In general, the sample video referenced would be easier to use a NLE for a majority of the editing sinc a good majority of this example contains a lot of position key framing, panning/rotating and cut edits.
