    Hi,
New to this. Ive been sent footage in a lower res to edit via dropbox. Originally shot with canon 5d. Im not sure what setting I should use. When I drop it into my sequence on fcp 7 I get “change sequence setting to match clip setting” – I click yes. The footage plays fine until I slow it down, or use simple transitions – then its red and I have to render it all the time. Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Matt

Can you open the files in Quicktime and find out the type of file you are working with? Go to Window(I think) > Movie Inspector; under the format section it will say what types of files you are working with.

What format are the clips you’ve down converted?

They should be ProRes files. Some codecs don’t work with RT extreme for real time playback of unrendered effects. Sounds like you’re working with the wrong codec.

    Hi,
The format of the clips is H 264.
Is there something in the set up I’m missing?

FCP 7 doesn’t support H.264 files. You need to transcode your footage to ProRes files.

    Thanks for that Jerry.
Below is all the information about the clip

    FORMAT : H.264, 480 x 270, Millions
    AAC, 2 channels, 48000 Hz
    FRS :25
    CURRENT SIZE : 480 x 270 pixels (Actual)

Im having trouble matching FCP sequence setting with the down conversion.
Using MpegStreamclip – Whats the best Pro Res setting to use for the down conversion? Do I leave it the same size as well?
    Thanks.
