I dont know whats going on here. I’m working in a 1920×1080 timeline with canon 5d footage apple pro res’d on an 8 core mac and fcp has been crashing every couple of minutes all day today. It seems to be happening whenever I am scrubbing footage forward to get to where ever i need to cut. I turned SAFE RT mode on and it still crashes. I get an extremely long report on why it crashed. Language i dont even understand. Here is some of the message:

Trash your preferences…first thing to do. There is a free tool called Preference Manager at digitalrebellion.com that will trash all 4 files for you with the click of a button.

There is also a CRASH ANALYZER tool there that will decypher these cryptic messages. I have it, part of the Maintenance Pack. UBER helpful.

I second Shane’s answer – had the same thing once with EX1 Footage.
Trashing the Preferences helped to solve the problem.

Is it hot where you are today? I always keep a fan turned on directly in front of my Mac. Maybe it’s just mine but this machine is very sensitive to heat. I learned this a couple of years ago when I was getting a series of crashes that I couldn’t connect to any consistent cause. Neither could the local Apple Geniuses.

Then I thought about all the data centers I’ve been in and how much effort and expense those operations go to in order to keep all the servers cool. So, I tried the fan and my crashing problem went away. It wasn’t all that warm in my edit room but apparently it was just warm enough to make the Mac unhappy.

Here’s hoping your problem is just as easy to solve.
