  FCP – Black and white horizontal lines appear after rendering Video transitions

  Hello to one and all,

  I would appreciate anyone’s input on this problem I am having with FCP.

  I am editing in FCP 6 on a Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard)

  I am working with video shot on the Canon 7D, and with various still images as well.

  My issue is as follows. Whenever I apply a video transition such as a fade in / fade out or cross dissolve I am seeing black and white horizontal lines appear after rendering that are noticeable whenever I play through the transition. This is occurring not just with the 7D content, but with the other still images and FCP generated text inserts as well.

  I am converting the 7D H.264 7D clips into pro res clips as I move through the edit. The edit is for a short 5 to 6 minute vid. The 7D was used for both talking head interviews and some b-roll, although the majority of visual content is made up of digital stills. I believe I have made an error in creating inappropriate settings for the sequence as it is set for H.264 (which I have now learned is a delivery format and not an editing format).

  I am confused to say the least, and would like any advice on how to properly troubleshoot and fix this issue. I do not want to go about changing settings and run the risk of messing up the project file.

  Any thoughts would be most greatly appreciated. Please let me know if anyone requires additional information about the project file set-up / settings.

  You need to transcode the 7D footage to ProRes before you edit with it, then edit these ProRes clips into a sequence whose settings match those of the ProRes clips…
