FCP Rendering Query
Hi everyone,
I have a question and I apologize in advance if I’m missing something obvious.
If I’m sitting with a 24 min HD sequence which has a basic grade, some titles, a scrolling credit sequence etc Am I correct in saying I should render the timeline in FCP and export a quicktime movie, and then send that to Compressor for transcoding into whatever is required, as opposed to sending it directly to Compressor from FCP before render?
What baffles me is that within Compressor you have access to the clusters, FCPsvr (if avail) and the general processing power of any external machines to help with the transcoding. However if you’re sitting with an unrendered timeline you have to rely on the local machines power (and FCP7’s 2gb ram limit) and the graphics card for rendering before you can tap into those other potentially huge resources.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to be able to tap into the clusters etc for rendering power on the timeline? Or at the very least on Export?

Yes.FCP is old and there were no multiple procs, no multi cores, no multi threading, etc when the code was written.

Render completely. Make a self contained or reference QT movie. Open Compressor and drag and drop the file into Compressor. Choose export setting hit submit.
