235 crop filter render bounce
I’m working in FCP7. I have a feature film back from apple’s Color app. I have applied a unique 2.35 crop to each shot (because the head room changes from shot to shot etc, so a nest is out the question)
After rendering random shots will “bounce” almost like film going through the shutter. It effects only about a 3rd of the shots. If you email me I can send you a video of the problem. jacobammonmoffat@.gmail.com

Instead of crop I’d suggest using a pair of black slugs to mask off the upper and lower portion of the frame.
If the footage is interlaced, and Color has problem with interlaced footage, I’d say Color didn’t interpret the interlacing constantly so the crop ‘jumps’ between scan lines.

Really? I use it all the time with interlaced footage and I don’t know what problem you refer to. Since 1.5 Color has been fine for interlaced in my experience. I am in 25fps land and have put Prores SD & HD flavors, HDV, XDCam, DV and uncompressed SD/ HD through, all interlaced and all without any issue.

Another thought is to add edge feather of 1 or 2 to your crop. It should reduce flicker at the crop border and might stop the bounce.

I haven’t done any interlaced work in 1.5 but I know in 1.0.x Color had problems handling interlaced footage properly if you did things like make adjustments in the Geometry Room or applied a blur filter in the ColorFX Room.
That’s great to hear if these things have been fixed in 1.5.
