April 26, 2011 at 4:41 pmHi Joe,
There are few tools to go to FC > AE (AutomaticDuck, Popcorn Island..), but no sure if any to go AE > FC.
AE is not an NLE; is not TC based. Exporting to any kind of standard EDL or XML gets more complicated.
You may try sending the AE Composition to PP, then export an XML to FC.

April 26, 2011 at 4:57 pmThanks Rafael i tried that but no matter what I do the assets are missing. It’s really a pain because as we migrate to FCP, we are finding more and more After Effects projects with very complicated effects that has to be integrated. I guess we’ll have to render them out and edit changes and render again.Bummer!!

April 26, 2011 at 5:12 pmHi Joe,
This fresh thread is on the same issue:
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1129990#1130044Anyway Joe, think that the only thing you could be able to send from AE to FC by XML would be the media used in the Composition. Animations, Graphics, effects only exist in AE “brain” till you export a movie.
With Motion you can do what you want, but is a much limited application than AE.

April 26, 2011 at 5:24 pmI hear you Raf, it’s been a nice transition from After Effects/Premier to FCP, so much to learn but I honestly prefer FCP. I think we would just render the AE stuff when we need them, no big deal. Another thing, i tried to drop a FCP sequence onto another FCP sequence and could not do it. Could it be done?

No problem. Try again.
That’s the same than “Nesting”.

April 26, 2011 at 6:07 pmThanks, I would try as soon as the rendering finishes. How about the flash importing issue. I realize the work around is to come out of flash as a MOV but it would be so time consuming if we can import directly into FCP, taking advantage of the vector base flash engine. Is there a way Raf?

You can open “.flv” files in QT with Perian (https://www.perian.org), and possibly you can even cut them in FC (always setting the sequence to a codec that FC can manage). Try it. You won’t blow your Mac up.
When you open Flash files in QT, QT flats the movie. Flash options (vectors, metadata or whatever) won’t be available on QT. I guess that QT will recognize the Alpha channel.
