  H.264 Compression and Clip Lag

  Hey guys.

  I’m using Final Cut Pro to edit a short film I made filmed on two DSLRs. I borrowed them off some friends, and one was a Nikon and the other a Canon. The Nikon footage comes as an AVI, and I’ve not used those shots yet. The Canon footage comes as a MOV. I only have the files, not the cards they were saved to.

  Anyway, I’d had some problems editing my clips. In between cuts, the first shot freezes on the last frame, and the second clip speeds up its start to catch up.

  I think this is because they are H.264, and I know I have to compress them… But how do I do that? What do I compress them to? And I’ve never used Compressor before, I have no idea how to use the interface.

  So basically, how do I do this? How do I put them into Compressor? Once there, how do I compress them? What do I compress them into? How do I get them back into Final Cut Pro? And will this solve my problem?

  I really have no idea what I’m doing here, so any help would be appreciated.

  H264 is not an editing codec. You need to convert the files before editing.

  Foe more info on the process a search of the cow will provide plenty of info.
