My FCP is acting very strange…when doing an export off the timeline the job will actually be finished but the little window that shows how much time is remaining will still show a progress bar/percentage complete figure indicating that the job is NOT finished, but it actually is….

I WAS going to ask a question as well about why the time estimates Final Cut comes up with in terms of how long an export will take seem so way off but I guess what I am seeing is related to the issue noted above.

Also, very often, if I export a job and it completes but I happen to leave the Final Cut Pro timeline open on my desktop, it will begin acting as if it is Re-exporting the timeline. (By that I mean there’s the little export window showing the progress bar/percentage complete just as you would normally see) It’s unclear to me what it is actually doing, I just hit cancel but why would it decide for itself to export the timeline once again?

Is there something I can do to fix either of these problems?

It sounds as if you have many sequences open at the same time, and when you leave FCP is autorendering all, because your preferences are set to enable autorenders.

You should consider exporting a self contained movie first with Export>>QuickTime Movie, then using that to make other file types using Compressor. It’s much quicker than trying to export the same files from the timeline.

Thanks forthe hint on auto renders and yes I do indeed have many sequences open most of the time

I still don’t understand what is happening with my first issue however – while the counter seems “stuck” at some percentage point the job itself is actually finished – so wierd
