  • Easy way to put a logo bug without rendering?

Posted by Bill Thomas on April 7, 2011 at 4:00 pm

I have some long programs that require logo bugs throughout the program. And the sequence will play back fine from the timeline with the bug.

But if I need to do anything else to the sequence (export to wherever) FCP always needs to render the whole sequence which takes forever (even with an 8 core) and makes huge render files.

Is there a way to get around always having to render before exporting?

    Thanks all…

    yes there is.

If you have a Kona or Decklink card, you can overlay a graphic in real time while outputting to tape.

Ditto what Chris said. Easily done with a Kona board.

[Bill Thomas] “But if I need to do anything else to the sequence (export to wherever) FCP always needs to render the whole sequence which takes forever (even with an 8 core) and makes huge render files.”

If you are then transcoding the file to something else (like h264 or whatever) in Compressor, you can add the bug there.

    Yessir.

In the Filters > Video tab of compressor, scroll down to the very bottom and you will find the “watermark” option.

Many things you can add inside compressor. Timecode is another. Add filters, adjust audio, the list goes on. Check it out.

I am doing a timecode burn right now.

We love the Timecode burn in Compressor for client views of edits. It makes feedback a breeze.

to answer the question about the long render time, just razor the logo, only parts have to be re-rendered if you do so….

Does this add to the compression time?

[Harry Bromley-Davenport] “Does this add to the compression time?”

A bug? Not much at all. It’s faster than waiting for FCP to render.
