  PluralEyes/5DM2/FCP: not totally syncing. Fixes?

  HI All,

  Shot video and internal audio of a presentation with the 5DMark 2 (1 hour in 12 min takes) . Also had separate device recording good audio continuously. While I changed cards someone else shot audio/video with a T2i, though he wasn’t really paying attention and there are gaps where I can eventually fill in with the speakers slides as the audio was still being captured separately.

  Laid down the footage from the 5D, T2i and then the separate continuous audio, tried PluralEyes eyes several times an have been unsuccessful. Here’s what did happen:

  1. It found and cerated the gaps where I had to change cards + wasn’t shooting
  2. seemingly laid down the footage in order to match the separate audio. I filled them in with slugs. (see attachment)
  3. synched audio perfectly in the beginning, but within in the first 12 minutes (of 1hour) it was slightly out of sync, never catching up.

  I really want this to work, but it’s off. Anyone have this experience, and or a fix?

  Not enough info to help you in your post. You’ve got audio and you’ve got video.
  But;-
  What are specs of the audio files?
  What are specs of the video files?
  How did you get this material into FCP – did you log and transfer video to ProRes?

  What you are describing is sync drift. The most likely cause (and the solution) are described in this blog post:

  If that’s not it, then your audio recorder may be inaccurate. Which one are you using?

  Before you import any audio assets into FCP read the second half of this tutorial

  Basically your default FCP project and the current sequence must have identical frame/ timecode rates. Pluraleyes is probably syncing as best as possible but the frame rate or timecode mismatch is causing FCP to drift the audio. I have rarely found cameras and recorders have a drift in a 12 minute clip
