cropping + maintaining quality
Hello…I shoot 1080p. I’ve got a clip I’d like to enlarge and know how to crop it in FCP but wonder what parameters there are for maintaining quality. I’m new at this part of working with video. Can I assume that, as an example, if I crop to double the size, I’ll end up with a video that’s essentially half the frame size? Obviously unsure of the relationship.

The most you can really blow up any image without real visible quality loss is 10%…15% if you push it. No way can you push something to 150% and expect to retain the quality you have at 100%. Even at 1080p.

Placing 720p in a 1080 sequence is a 150% enlargement and it looks fine. When dealing with progressive in HD you can get away with much more than the old Interlaced days.
