  Image Quality

  Basic Question:

  I searched it on other threads but didn’t find any.

  I’m working with 720×480 footage on FCP7.
  I’d like to know which option results in better image quality:

  – Set the Sequence Settings for exactly 720×480.
  – Set the Sequence Settings for 1440×960 (the exact double size).

  Both will fit the footage’s aspect ratio because they’re proportional. But i don’t know if any of these are gonna have higher resolution than the other, and if so, why.

  I’m just wishing to make it look a little better so it can be screened on a relatively small film theater screen during a workshop.

  Hi Gabriel,
  The quality will always be better keeping the original size.
  Any up/downscaling will degrade the picture.

  As Rafael suggested, the quality does not get better because the image gets bigger.

  You might try changing the compressor in Sequence>>Settings to ProRes 422 however. It won’t make your DV footage any better, but it will certainly make any text and graphics you use in the sequence a heck of a lot better by avoiding DV compression.
