    Hey guys,

pretty quick question, but need CURRENT info (most searches I’ve gotten are for older laptops and OS).

I am doing in edit onsite with macbooks and FCP and the cameramen will be shooting on sony Ex1 XDcam cameras. The Ex1 uses SxS cards and I’m not sure if my macbook can read the info via the laptop Express34 slot (if I have one) or if I need an SxS reader. If its the latter, then what is the best recommendation? Thanks!

Well, first off, you question has NOTHING to do with P2. P2 is Panasonic. You are talking SxS.

Second, if your computer has an Express34 slot, you are in luck…the SxS card goes right in there. No reader needed.

Third…if you have a MACBOOK, but not a MacBook PRO…then you don’t have that slot. You’ll need a reader.

    Thanks Shane,

that was the wrong heading (we were VERY close to doing P2 over SxS).

My macbook PRO was purchased about three years ago. Can I assume the slot on the side is Express34 (it’s about 1.5″ in width)?

[Rick Neely] “Can I assume the slot on the side is Express34 (it’s about 1.5″ in width)?”

With a machine that old, I might assume that. But…Dont’ assume. LOOK. DOes it have a cover? Is it about 1.5 inches long? Then it is Express34. The SD card slots replaced that about 1.5 years ago. I think you’re safe.
