  Export HD footage for PAL TV

  Hello,

  I have looked through the forums, searching many terms but (probably because I am very technically challenged in terms of export settings, codecs, etc) I have not been able to get the info I need. I’m sorry in advance for asking what is a very basic question, but I need to submit this in the next day or two and am desperate.

  I shot a music video on a Canon 7d in PAL and need to give the band a version they can give to TV stations.

  I tried different settings but got terrible results. Can someone please explain exactly what I need to do to export it correctly?

  If it’s for a TV station, you can output the video to tape (HDCAM; best quality, DigiBeta; better, or Beta). DVCPro HD and DVCPro are other tape format options. You will need the proper hardware to do this.

  Since you are technically challenged, your best option is to export a self-contained QuickTime Movie and give the file to someone who knows what they are doing. All these options are going to cost some money.

  Worst case scenario, you can create a DVD. You can learn how to make a DVD by reading the Help section in FCP and DVD Studio Pro.

  TV stations have pretty strict technical standards that have to be adhered to, which they’ll generally supply if you ask for them (some even put them on their web sites). If you don’t have any particular TV station in mind get hold of a couple and you’ll see that most of the requirements are pretty standard, but if you don’t understand them you really need to get someone to do it for you.
