Syncing 1 Video clip and 2 Audio clips in FCP for export
Hi
I am synching rushes for a project in FCP and would like to be able to export synched-up clips which will keep the source video clip’s reel name and timecode for the editor to use in his own FCP project at a later stage.
The video clips have 2ch audio linked already, and I have separate audio files for the boom mic and radio mic. I’ve been synching on the timeline with the boom audio on A1+2, the radio mics on A3+4, and the original camera audio on A5+6. There is no common timecode and the 3 separate source files often have different in points.
I’ve tried both dragging my timeline clips to the browser and using Merge Clip, as well as first Linking the timeline clips and dragging that as a single clip to the browser. Of the clips I end up with in the browser I prefer the Linked as it doesn’t have the word “merged” added to its clip name and when I cut it in the timeline the audio tracks still have their source names as well. Both the Linked clip and the Merged clip have the correct reel name and timecode (from the video source) in the browser.
My Problem: Now I want to export my Linked/ Merged clip for the editor to use. I export it using current settings as a self-contained Quicktime. But when I try to bring the new Quicktime file I’ve created into an FCP project I get the error “Unknown file”.
Is it possible to export synched clips that will come back into FCP with the correct metadata for conform? Or will the editor be forced to work from my FCP project (he’s on another continent and I’d rather not impose my way of working on him when we’ve never met face to face)?
Any ideas?
