    Hi,

    As per the image below…

I’ve got my in-and-out marked, and let’s say I want to MOVE the clip up one track. Is there a shortcut
to allow me to do that.

Currently I’m going to the in point, razor blade.. out point, razor blade, raise one track.

    There MUST be better way.

    Thanks,

    Wayne

Well, what you describe is the way I do it, except that if I’m marking the points to move a section I go straight to cutting with the razor blade tool rather than doing in and out points first. I always use the keyboard shortcuts to select between cursor modes (A for selection tool, B for blade, etc) and I actually find it quite quick and easy.
But then after doing it a million times I suppose I would though.

    Shift-I Control-V Shift-O Control-V drag up a track.

What I’m curious about is why you’re doing this?

    All the best,

    Hi Tom,

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

I was trying to avoid the Shift-I//Shift-O and cutting part.
I know that once the in-and-out are set, you can hit Apple-c or Apple-x and the clip will automatically copy or paste. I was hoping
there was a shortcut to ‘isolate’ the ‘selected’ part of the clip.

As to why I’m doing this…

I’m doing because this is how I make selects of my B-Roll [and sometimes, interviews].

What I do is I put all my B-Roll on it’s own timeline [so I can see it all], and then I go though and ‘rate’ all the clips I like and may want to use by putting them either on track 2, or if they are really good, track 3, etc.

That way, at a glance, I can see all my B-Roll clips and, more importantly, which are the ones I want to use.

When working with DSLR footage, especially when any given scene is split across many, many separate clips, I find this an easier way to work and manage massive amounts of footage.
It may take a little longer in the prep phase, but when I’m in the actual editing phase I can see exactly which are the good clips and go straight to them.
And I can also see the other material at a glance without having to do 10 million ‘match frames’.

Hope that answers your question 😉

Question answered. Not a technique I’d use but to each his own.

Option A, Option Up Arrow …. there’s ALWAYS a way

    thats:
Opt A : Select In to Out
    Opt ↑ : Nudge Up

    You’re welcome.

    Andy,

    Thanks a lot!

Btw – the Option A works great, but I can’t get the Option Up Arrow to work.

btw – are you the Andy of those amazing plugins?

The reason your Option up isn’t working is because of your audio track. Lock the audio track and it works perfectly.

    Scott,

Thanks – it’s weird because I can only get it to
work if my audio/video is UNlocked – and I’m only moving the Video OR audio [but not together].

    Thanks again,

    Wayne

    Hey Wayne
Sorry, the “Nudge Up/Down” function only works on either video or audio, it won’t work if you try to nudge both at the same time.
If its applicable to your needs you can target just one or the other to move by using the track auto select buttons (or the track locks) … but thats too clunky if you actually need to move both, in which case it seems a whole lot easier to just “opt a” and then drag it manually.

    Fwiw
Option – Keypad Zero toggles on/off all the Audio Track auto selects
Command – Keypad Zero toggles on/off all the Video Track auto selects

    Cheers
    Andy
