  • audio markers change position after speed change in fcp

I have an analog to digital transfer business, and I’ve been working with Super8 with Sound footage. Currently I have to transfer these in two passes, one for video and the other for audio, and then sync them up in fcp. This has been a nightmare as the audio transfers at a variable speed. I’d love a solution to that, but that’s not the purpose of this post. I’ve been trying to go through the footage in small segments and sync them up. but it only works sometimes. I’ll list out the steps I am taking:

    1. I mark all the breaks in the video footage and then mark all the breaks in the audio (I know what to listen for).
    2. I line up the beginning marks and splice there so I know I am beginning on the correct spot for both audio and video.
    3. Next, I splice at the last mark of the scene I want to work on and do the same on the equivalent audio spot.
    4. I look at the total frames for the video segment and I copy that number into the duration box in the speed menu for the audio.

In theory, I should be able to line everything up with my markers now, but often at this point the markers on the audio clip are no longer with their breaks. I don’t understand what is causing this and how to control it. I hope this makes sense, and I apologize for such a long post.

I thought someone would jump right on this. Did I scare everyone away on my first post?
