  Final Cut Pro Folders files and drives

  Im trying to best get the workflow in my head for final cut pro and its studio components (Motion and Dvd studio pro mainly)
  I am running a MBP with 256Gb hard drive and am working with AVCHD files. Im aware that during the log and transfer process the ProRes files take up acres of space so my plan is to only work on a couple of projects at a time and have all the files required(including the motion assets and DVD studio) on the and their renders in one folder on the laptop.

  The plan is to then back up these files on an external hard drive in such a folder and when the project has been completed remove all of the files to the external drive whilst maintaining the folder structure intact but empty on my laptop.

  I think this should mean that if I want to work on the project in the future I can just import the files into the original folder on my laptop and get back to working on it.

  Does that sound like a stupid or good idea? Either way does anyone have a way that they keep their files in check without cluttering their Laptop? I travel a lot so want the option to be able to work on the plan or train etc

  It’s not a good idea to put your media files (the ProRes files) on your startup disk. Much better to use an external drive for this and use your startup disk only for project files, thumbnails, etc… but renders and media files should be on another drive during the editorial process.
