don’t want to nest audio
I’ve got a project with problematic audio. Lots of different channels, lots of characters. I had to create new sequences with seven audio channels to sync my master clips.
Needless to say, I didn’t sync all of the material. I’ve done a rough cut and need to line up all of the audio and start wading through to see which channels to keep for which shots.
I’m using overwrite sequence content to preserve the independence of the audio but I’ve found that this ignores my out point in the timeline and overwrites the entire length of the sequence with as much audio as exists in the incoming sequence – unless I find the out point on the left hand side as well.
What am I doing wrong? Regular overwrite nests the audio – which I don’t want and finding both the ins and outs is annoying and feels unnecessarily complicated. Is there a setting that I’m missing?

I’m confused… what do you mean by “overwrite sequence content”?

I think that’s what it’s called. As I remember, there are three different types of ‘overwrite’ in FCP.
‘regular’ overwrite, overwrite clip with transition, and overwrite sequence content. The last one allows you to edit using another sequence as a source without FCP automatically creating a nested track in the sequence.
I almost always use this as I often do projects that involve select sequences as sources or multiple post-sync audio tracks and being able to see the individual original clips clearly in the timeline is critical.
I remember seeing this behavior before, but I feel like it’s the result of a misplaced setting that I just can’t find. -
Command Drag to the canvas overlay for Overwrite
or
CMD F12 (make sure of course that f12 is f12 and not your dashboard on your mac)
or
CMD drag your sequence.This will overwrite the sequence contents to the timeline.

Might copy and paste from one sequence to the other then… only what you copy will paste… and it will not nest.
