  FCP to Squeeze FLV settings

  Hi everyone,

  I work for a newspaper producing videos for our website. When I make videos for other purposes (i.e. not for work), my typical workflow is to edit in ProRes 422 LT, export QuickTime movie (which is H.264), and then upload that to YouTube or Vimeo in HD. Now, for the newspaper website, we use Flowplayer, which requires an .FLV format video. I’ve been using Sorensen Squeeze 6 to convert to FLV but I’m having problems getting the best video quality-to-file size ratio, so to speak. Some of the videos I’ve made, I’ve used the F8 360p Progressive Streaming format, which is ok. BUT our website has limits to file size (max 100mb) and a preferred bit rate of around 350kbps. Trying to hit those marks makes for some fairly lousy quality videos. As a comparison, I downloaded the 360p and 480p FLVs of an HD video I posted on YouTube and the quality is fantastic, and the file sizes are surprisingly very small. How can I get that quality of video? Does anyone know what settings/parameters YouTube uses to convert the videos to FLV?

  The low data rate is where you need to change.
  You can drop the frame rate down to 15 or 12 a sec. to save space.

  I typically make FLV files around 1000-1800 kbps

  Thanks, this does look better and the file size is nice and manageable. However I can definitely tell that frame rate was lowered, compared to 24 initially, which given my constraints is not bad.
