  Working with out original render files

  So a few months ago, I cleared up all the huge render files that each movie stored onto my computer. Before doing this, I saved all my movies to .mov files just to be sure nothing fishy happened, even though I was sure it would be fine.

  Now I am trying to put one of those movies on a DVD, and iDVD (and later Quicktime), tells me the file cant be worked with without the render files [called like (projectname)-FIN-(a bunch of numbers)]. I thought that by burning the movie to a .mov file, this would have never happened. Does anyone know what I can do?

  You exported Quicktime Reference movies…not self contained movies. Reference movies are just that, movies that reference the master clips and render files. If you delete them, then the QT movies won’t work.

  You needed to export Self Contained QT movies. There is a box with that option in the EXPORT window in QT.

  You’l have to go back to the original sequence and export with the “Reference” UNSELECTED – creating a ‘self contained’ QuickTime movie, no longer referencing your work in FCP.
