  • Back to Leopard, or FCP 7?

Posted by Cory Tomascoff on January 28, 2011 at 2:31 pm

Like many others I had the problem where I got an error when trying to upload P2 footage into FCP.

I’ve located the problem: I made the mistake of installing Snow Leopard and my FCP is version 5.

In order to fix this problem I’ve heard you can erase everything and go back to Leopard. This is more of a pain for me though. It would be easier for me to upgrade to FCP 7.

Does anyone know for sure if upgrading to FCP 7 will fix the problem? Meaning, do FCP 7 and Snow Leopard work fine together?

    Thanks

    Yes.

FCP 7 works with Mac OS 10.5.6+, which includes 10.6.

As a side note, I always recommend doing a CLEAN install of 10.6 and not an upgrade of 10.5 to 10.6. When you go to install FCP 7, FCP will realize that you are entering an upgrade serial number, and prompt you for the previous version.

    Good Luck!

    Thanks for the info!

Just a quick question, when I update my FCP, will my existing FCP project file still load and transfer over okay?

    Yes.

FCP will open OLDER projects, and will prompt you that you are opening an older project. FCP will also ask you to save the “updated” project file. DO THIS as a copy, as an older FCP version will not open newer versions…i.e. FCP 6 will not open an FCP7 project.
